Fremantle Inner Harbour Classic Yacht Race on 1pm Sunday 23 November 2008

About 30 large ocean-going yachts will battle for line honours in the confines of the harbour, making it a great race for spectators.

Spectators can watch the two-hour race from Victoria Quay (see map) between the WA Maritime Museum, where the race will start and finish, and C Shed.

The Harbour Classic originated in 1940 as a challenge race between East Fremantle Yacht Club and the Fremantle Sailing Club. It was revived in 1991 and is now a highlight of the WA yachting calendar.

Fremantle Ports accommodates the Harbour Classic because of its long history of being held in the harbour but it is the only recreational event given approval to be held in the harbour.

The race is organised by the Fremantle Sailing Club.
